Student, Rae Gilstad, organised a community fundraiser called “First Steps” to purchase resources for the Special Education Department at Billings West High School. The event took place on Monday September 30 at a local pizzeria.
Rae arranged with the restaurant that 20% of all meal purchases and all tips would be granted towards the fundraiser. Additionally, she organised for gift cards and other prizes that were donated to be sold via silent auction on the night.
The inspiration for the idea came when Rae helped out in a special education class at her school and she decided that, “something needed to be done,” about adequate resourcing for their classrooms.
