A Free Event with One Million Students

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read at the exact same time in libraries, schools, and other locations around Australia. Last year there were over 1,062,230 participants at over 8,255 locations!

This fun event is easy for student leaders to organise with a little help from some adults at the school. Everything is provided (for free) to those who register in advance at: https://www.alia.org.au/nss

This event lends itself to a special school assembly, or having different student leaders visit younger classrooms to each read the book to their peers at the same time.

This year NSS takes place on Wednesday 22 May 2019 at 11:00am. The 2019 book is ‘Alpacas with Maracas’ written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove. Matt has a particular passion in helping student leaders, and has been a popular speaker at the Halogen Australia National Young Leaders Day in recent years (as featured in the article photo).
