Bulman School students and teachers from the Northern Territory were named the school winners of the national 2024 ‘Caring for Country’ song competition. With their remarkably creative effort, students from Bulman also created a music video which won them the Community Clip of the year at the 2024 National Indigenous Music Awards this year. The song incorporated Rembarrnga, Dalabon, and Kriol languages to bring their whole community together.
The aim of this creative initiative was to raise awareness for biosecurity in caring for our native environment. Their song was titled, ‘Strong Bala Wei’, collaboratively written by Bulman students, alongside artists Vivian Lawrence and Steve Lane.
The song educates others on biosecurity efforts such as water testing, land and animal monitoring, controlled burning, regenerative native planting, feral animal control, fencing, sustainable cleanliness, and of course, the importance of community!
This musical program has inspired students to get creative through instruments, singing, writing, and performing, while connecting with their greater community and environment.
