Making Poppies for Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day, held annually on 11th November, has been a signficant day since the end of the First World War. It is dedicated to remembering those men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

At Rockhampton Girls Grammar, it was a focus of the ‘Sisters meetings’ in which the oldest and youngest students spend time together (as pictured above).  During the recent gatherings, the students made red poppies, the key symbol of Remembrance Day. Whilst it is customary to wear a red poppy on clothing, the students decorated many areas of their school with their many poppies (see picture below).

A special Remembrance Day Assembly was also held, featuring a minute silence.
