Bossley Park Students Run NAIDOC Celebration

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Bossley Park Public School recently held a NAIDOC week assembly ran by the student representative council.

Teh assembly featured performances from the school choir, who sang the national anthem in the Darug language, and a combined school Aboriginal dance group. After the assembly, representatives from each class planted new trees and bushes in the school’s bush tucker garden.

This year’s NAIDOC week theme is Heal Country. “We emphasised the fact that for the Aboriginal community, country is more than a place. It is emotional, spiritual, physical and inherent to our country,” said Deputy Principal Judith Birkett.
