Students Gather for National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week runs annually in Australia, from 27th May – 3rd June. In the Mandurah region of WA, students from nine local schools marked the occasion by gathering together to walk along the foreshore on Wednesday 29th May.

Organised by students themselves, participants gathered outside the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre at 10am, to hear from Bindjareb elder Harry Nannup and community leader George Walley about the importance of different cultures coming together. Each school had painted their own colourful banner for the event, walking in unity to the Eastern Foreshore.

“It’s always been the adults who have organised these events, so it’s great to see young people in high school and young adults organising these events” said community leader Barrie Lawrence.
