Beehive Initiative at Nelson College

Nelson College for Girls now have beehives on their own school grounds thanks to some passionate students who are part of the Enviro Action Group.

This all began when members of the group started to create beeswax wraps on their weekends and decided to sell them during the week to students. Popular demand saw $200 in profits, allowing them the opportunity to rent their own beehive from ‘Backyard Bee’s’.

Students recognize that this is a significant step in educating the rest of their school on the importance of bees and the environment.

Student Emma Edwards hopes the school ecosystem would be helped by their initiative and they would see other schools inspired to do the same.

Edwards hopes this small step will have a significant impact helping to care for the environment and that their initiative would continue for years to come.
