School Announces First Ever Female Student Leaders

With a strong tradition in boys education Guildford Grammar School, in Perth Western Australia, has recently transitioned into a co-educational school. This means that for the first time in its 122 year history the school will introduce female students onto the student leadership team in 2019.

There will be 7 girls on the team of 18 students which demonstrates exciting progress. 2018 was the first year that the school had accepted female enrolments in the senior school with 50 students joining in years 7, 8 and 11.

Rebecca Adamson will fill the position of the school’s first ever female captain and she is excited to be a strong and positive role model for other students in the school. Co-Captain Nicholas Sheppard shares that he hopes the team can “can bring more to the school and to be able to better represent the students.”

“The process of selection is highly democratic with students needing to secure the support of both their student peers and staff to be selected” said Principal, Mr Stephen Webber. “I have every confidence that the group of students will lead the School with distinction.”
